Sweet Bell Cocktail {#PepperParty}

I joined up with a team of foodie bloggers to celebrate peppers in a week long #PepperParty. Red peppers. Yellow peppers. Peppers galore. And today is our kick-off!

The event is sponsored by Divemex though I have received no compensation nor products in exchange for my participation. I am joining the fun simply because I really love peppers. For the past month, we've been enjoying all of the poblanos - think grain-stuffed - and padròns - think pan-seared - from Fogline Farm in our CSA box. But this party inspired me to create some fun, new recipes featuring beautiful bells.

I have one kid who loves to crunch on raw bell peppers; the other only eats them cooked. And I can never remember who likes what. So, I serve them however I want - cooked or not cooked them as the case may be - and just deal with one unhappy kitchen elf at a time. One of these days I'll figure it out!

The growers of Divemex, our event sponsor, specialize in greenhouse grown peppers  in state of the art facilities that facilitate the production of the highest quality peppers in some of the safest facilities anywhere.  But most  importantly, as a Fair Trade Certified company, they have an unwavering commitment to social responsibility that includes support for  families of their workers, health care for all employees and a child-free environment. You can like them on Facebook. I have.

Before sharing my recipe, here are the links to the recipes from the other Pepper Party bloggers today. What a great collection!

Now it's not a celebration without a libation, right? So, without further ado, here's my offering. I found a gorgeous cocktail on pinterest and decided to tweak it and make my own version because I just got a delivery of finger limes from Good Land Organics. Oh, yes! This is the perfect way to kick-off a party. Enjoy! Cin cin...

Camilla's Sweet Bell Cocktail

6 thin slices organic mini red bell pepper
6 basil leaves
2 – 2.5 oz. vodka
2 – 2.5 oz. freshly squeezed lemon juice (feel free to substitute for any citrus juice you have available)
pulp from 1 finger lime
1 t granulated honey
capful pure vanilla extract
4 oz. freshly squeezed orange juice
1 vanilla bean and 1 mini red bell pepper for garnishing

I couldn't find my shaker and muddler for this, so I used the blunt end of my molinillo in a glass measuring cup. Add the sliced peppers, basil leaves, pulp from finger lime, granulated honey, and lemon juice to the glass and muddle it together. Let it sit for a minute or two. Add the vodka and vanilla extract.

Pour into an iced glass…top it off with freshly squeezed orange juice. Enjoy! Garnish with a mini bell, skewered with a vanilla bean.

Check back for the next #PepperParty reveal on October 7th. I can't wait.

  1. I love making bell peppers stuffed with cheesy rice - freshly grated parmesan is my favorite to mix with it!

  5. That cocktail looks awesome! My fav pepper recipe has got to be the stuffed bell peppers from River Cottage Veg - they're stuffed with potatoes, feta, and pesto, and taste AMAZING.

Quick Pickled Red Onions and Radishes

If you've been reading my blog for even a short amount of time, you probably know how much I love to pickle things. I was just telling a friend you can pickle - with vinegar - or you can ferment - with salt - for similar delicious effect. The latter has digestive benefits and I love to do that, but when I need that pop of sour flavor quickly, I whip up quick pickles that are ready in as little as a day or two. I've Pickled Blueberries , Pickled Asparagus , Pickled Cranberries , Pickled Pumpkin , and even Pickled Chard Stems ! This I did last night for an upcoming recipe challenge that requires I include radishes. Ummmm...of course I'm pickling them! Ingredients  makes 1 quart jar radishes, trimmed and sliced organic red onions, peeled and thinly sliced (I used a mandolin slicer) 3/4 C vinegar (I used white distilled vinegar) 3/4 C water 3 T organic granulated sugar 1 T salt (I used some grey sea salt) 6 to 8 grinds of black pepper Proce
